Texting and Relationships: How to Avoid Texting and Improve Relationship Quality

by - December 13, 2013

My boyfriend and I mostly communicate via text messages, so when we came across this article we were dumbstruck. Then, we actually did realize that it was (kind of) true! Too much texting can disconnect couples! Texting is something common too every teenager, hell! we talk to all our friends via texts, we always think that we have come "closer" via this technology, but is it really true?

cute texting, texting and relationships, why you shouldn't text, loving to text, cute edits, relationships, India texting
I do not own this image

We over-text people. We need to admit that, and it's time we find alternatives. Here are some:

Voice calls
Talking via the phone is better than talking via texts. Because it being just words, it's hard to detect one's tone. It has happened to my boyfriend and I several times that when one of us was kidding, the other thought that s/he was serious, which led to a fight.
Apologize through voice calls if face-to-face interaction isn't possible, it's more personal than text messaging. The person on the other end realizes your sincere apology and things can be sorted out better.

Video chats
I melt like ice-cream on a hot summer day when I see my boyfriend's cute face. Video chats make it feel like you are together and it's nicer than texts.

Face-to-face interaction
Who doesn't like to spend time with their boos? I do! Go out!
Arguing face-to-face is better than arguing via texts. It solves the problem faster.

Hand-written notes
Pretend that you are back in 3rd class and send hand-written loving notes to your boyfriend. It's more personal. Also, you can spray your signature scent and they can smell like you!
These notes can be saved, and are "physical" unlike texts.

Hand-written letters
Pour your heart out in the letters and give them to your loved ones! Be creative!

  4. Face to face interaction is great, but when it comes to long distance relationships, I kinda prefer voice calls, cos to me just texting doesn't quite strengthen the bond in a relationship.

  18. My boyfriend and I use an app called Voxer - it is like a walkie-talkie. We use it at night to talk to one another while we watch the same TV show. It's almost like we're hanging out together :)

  20. I like how I'm reading this post...while texting my bf! I think texting can't replace other forms of face to face communication, but I gotta love morning texts. They are just amazing and they make my whole day!

  22. Now that we're married, my husband and I almost never text because we are in the same place except when working (and my work place has a strict no cell phone rule), but when we were dating and not living together we texted a lot. Nothing wrong with texting 'Good morning' or 'I love you,' but you've got to make sure you are also saying these things face to face and not relying on text! Text to me just feels too distant... any time someone, even friends, want to discuss important things via text, I call them because I don't like serious conversations via text!

  24. My boyfriend and I text constantly, but when he goes to visit his father, we hardly get to talk at all. But instead of being sour about it, we embrace it. It just means we're sweeter to each other when it comes time to seeing each other face to face!

  26. Being in a long-distance relationship must be so hard at times! I was in one for 2 and a half years once, and it can be done but it requires work.
Hand-written notes and letters are the sweetest - I have a little box full of the cute things that my other-half has written for me. :)
    Wishing you all the best!
