All In One Guide To: A Vision Board and How It Can Bring Success To Your Life

by - January 12, 2014

I felt amazed after watching "The Secret" back in 2010. I realized that it had actually worked for me previously in life and I started following the Law of Attraction religiously. I am an optimist; I love staying positive and happy in life, maybe that's why I chose to believe in it but, it has worked for me, maybe it will for you, too!
I learnt about the vision board from the movie, and researched about it online (these kind of things interest me) and I would love to share my knowledge with you! Sharing is caring!

What is a vision board?

A vision board literally is a cork board (well, actually any kind of a board)  on which you display a collage pictures that represent what you want to be, what you want to achieve in life and the material things you want to own in the long term. It is a tool to motivate yourself to work for your long-term goals.

Honestly, I think that it is a means to achieve your goals in life, a way to motivate yourself to work harder when you are down, a way to remind yourself your long-term goals, because, these goals are way ahead in the future that it seems that you'd never achieve them.

Why do you need a vision board?

You probably have some long-term goals that you'd want to achieve, whether it's getting more income, getting fitter, or becoming a rock star (you can leave your autograph below, before you get too famous to do that!)

  1. It provides you with incentive
Imagine waking up and the first thing that you look at are your goals. You could start your day with imagining yourself living in that mansion with your gold-plated cup of tea and that rockin' Lamborghini in your garage. How cool would that be?
It will make you want to work harder for that; it would make you want to get off your feet and just do your best work! Right?
  2. It helps you visualize the life you want
Sometimes you feel blue and think that you aren't good enough and that you'd never be able to achieve your goals, I feel that way a lot more than I care to admit. In this kind of situation, a vision board helps you remind your goals, visualize them and it gives you the boost you need to get up and do something!
  3. It encourages positive thinking
Okay, so I consider myself an optimistic but when I feel down I am the biggest pessimist EVER. Yes, Capital letters were needed to let you know about the intensity.
When I remember my goals, it's easier for me to visualize them and feel better

There are several other advantages, too, but I won't go into much detail right now...

How to use a vision board the right way (and get success) ?

Most people don't use a vision board the right way. They just make one, hang it up and then forget about it. Those are the people who'd tell you that vision boards won't work. Then, there are those people who actually spend a good part of their day dreaming about the goals they want to achieve. This will not work for you. If you are going to do that then, a vision board will be just a waste of the hours you spent making and designing it. I'd recommend you not to do that all for getting just disappointment from it.
You need to think of your vision board as an action board, spend time brain-storming about how you will want to approach a particular goal in your vision board. Yes, that's right, dreaming and fantasizing won't work alone. You need to use your brain to find solutions, strategies, perhaps some short-time goals, you need to work harder than you already are rather than spending hours fantasizing alone.

How to make a vision board?

Making a vision board is fun! All you need to make a vision board are:
  • A cork board (or any kind of board, actually)
  • Sharpies
  • Pencils
  • Pins
  • Photographs of the things you want
And then leave the rest to your creativity! Here are some cool vision board that I found online:

  16. I read through this twice. Being more positive has really changed my life. I'm able to be more approachable as well because I don't always look sullen. I love the idea of having my goals visible to me. It's definitely just showing the end result, though, so I agree that you need to think about how to get to that result or it's just something pretty to stare at.

  20. A vision board would be perfect for me to have for my little ones. I do recall when I was younger clipping pics from magazines, making a collage of all things I wanted when I was older and/or wanted to travel to. It's a great way to visualize your dreams and make them one day your reality!
